Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
The short version: Glealu runs entirely on your computer. Your documents, questions and answers never leave your machine. We collect only what is strictly necessary to process your purchase and deliver your license key.
1. What Glealu is
Glealu is a desktop application that lets you ask questions about your own documents using a local AI model. All document processing, embedding and question answering happens on your own computer. No document content, no questions and no answers are ever transmitted to Glealu or any third party.
2. What data we collect
We collect only the minimum information needed to operate the service:
- Purchase data: When you buy Glealu or start a trial, your email address and payment details are processed by Polar (our payment provider). We receive your email address to deliver your download link and license key. We do not store your payment card details — these are handled entirely by Polar and Stripe.
- License validation: When you activate or validate your license, your license key and an anonymous device identifier (a one-way hash of hardware characteristics — not reversible to identify you) are sent to our license server at api.glealu.com. No document content or usage data is transmitted.
- Support emails: If you contact us at help@glealu.com, we retain your email and correspondence to respond to your request.
3. What we do not collect
- The content of any documents you upload into Glealu
- The questions you ask or the answers you receive
- Usage statistics or analytics from inside the app
- Crash reports or telemetry
- Your location beyond what is required for VAT calculation at checkout
4. Third-party services
Glealu uses the following third-party services:
- Polar (polar.sh): Payment processing and file delivery. Polar acts as the Merchant of Record for all transactions, meaning they handle payment data, VAT compliance and receipts. Their privacy policy applies to checkout data.
- Stripe: Card processing on behalf of Polar. Your payment details are processed by Stripe and never stored by Glealu.
- Cloudflare: Our website and license API run on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Cloudflare may log request metadata (IP addresses, timestamps) for security purposes in accordance with their privacy policy.
- Ollama: The AI engine that powers Glealu. Ollama is downloaded and installed separately on your own computer. It runs entirely locally and has no connection to Glealu's servers.
5. How we use your data
- Your email address is used to deliver your download link, license key and any important service communications.
- Your license key and device identifier are used solely to validate that you have an active license.
- We do not sell, share or rent your personal data to any third party for marketing purposes.
6. Data retention
Your email address and license information are retained for the duration of your license and for a reasonable period thereafter for support purposes. You may request deletion of your data at any time by emailing help@glealu.com.
7. Your rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area or Norway, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- The right to access the personal data we hold about you
- The right to correct inaccurate data
- The right to request deletion of your data
- The right to object to processing
- The right to data portability
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at help@glealu.com.
8. Security
Your data directory (~/.glealu/) is protected with owner-only file system permissions on all platforms. License tokens are signed with a cryptographic key and cannot be tampered with. We use HTTPS for all network communication.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects when it was last updated. Continued use of Glealu after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
10. Contact
For any questions about this privacy policy or your data, contact us at help@glealu.com.
